A woman in lust wants chocolates, a woman in love wants #diamonds.

It’s hard to forget the glance (to quick look for a short time) of a beautiful diamond, especially in some of Hollywood’s most memorable and famous movie scenes. In most of the cases, the striking (very attractive) diamond is what made the scene so unforgettable and spectacular (extremely good, exciting) . For example, when it comes to the Titanic one of the most significant parts of the film is where Kate Winslet’s character, Rose drops the one of a kind blue diamond in the ocean. At the same time, who could forget the time Marilyn Monroe wore diamond jewellery and sang about her love for the beautiful gemstones (a jewel) in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in 1953? Here’s a list of some of the most unforgettable scenes in movies that feature diamonds:

# DIAMOND SCENE FROM PRETTY WOMAN – 1990

One of the most memorable scenes in Pretty Woman was the time Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) presented a Vivian (Julia Roberts) with a ruby and diamond wreath (any circular or spiral formation) necklace in a blue velvet box. The scene shows Julia laughing after Richard closed the box of jewellery on her fingers. The director originally intended the closing of the box to be a practical joke on Julia, but decided to leave the iconic scene as authentic as it is; Julia’s spontaneous (happening naturally and suddenly without being planned)  and endearing (giving rise to love or esteem, charming) laugh made it one of the most famous movie scenes in Hollywood history. The necklace was custom-designed for the film and has an estimated value of (ZAR) 3 million (appr. $ 225 000).

DIAMOND SCENE FROM TITANIC – 1997

Who could forget the beautiful blue, heart-shaped diamond, Kate Winslet’s character wore in Titanic? The story behind the diamond, which was dubbed (to give something or someone an unofficial name) the Heart of the Ocean, is that the unique gemstone once belonged to King Louis XVI and was made into a heart after the French Revolution. Even though the necklace was a fictional piece of jewellery for the film, a replica was made using 170-carat sapphire and 65 diamonds that weighed 30 carats. At the 1998 Academy Awards, Celine Dion wore the spectacular(extremely good, exciting)  necklace during her performance of the Titanic theme song, ‘My Heart Will Go On’. Before the performance, the replica was sold at a charity auction for a whopping (to hit or defeat) R29 million ($2 250 000.-).

DIAMOND SCENE FROM BLOOD AND WINE – 1996

The 1996 Blood and Wine thriller featured Jack Nicolson getting into trouble after he attempts to steal a diamond necklace worth, R13 million ($ 1 000 000.-). The once, very wealthy wine merchant finds himself in a lot of debt and in his desperation (needing or wanting very much) for money plans to steal his client’s spectacular jewels. Even though the film debuts a lot of ups and downs, for Nicholson the film showcases (to show the best) one of the most extravagant pieces of jewellery ever shown in cinemas.

DIAMOND SCENE FROM SEX AND THE CITY 2 – 2010

It was such a special moment for Sex and the City’s, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) – the love of her life, Mr Big finally popped the question. Even though it took six seasons and two movies before the proposal happened, it was worth the wait. Mr Big made the moment unforgettable by proposing with a large black diamond engagement ring. The magnificent ring became one of the most memorable engagement rings in Hollywood.

DIAMOND SCENE FROM HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS – 2003

During the romantic comedy, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Matthew McConaughey’s character, Michael Michele utters (used to emphasize something) the famous words, “A woman in lust (a very strong wish) wants chocolates, a woman in love wants diamonds.” The film is about two people falling in love, but it’s also about the beauty of a diamond and what it represents. At the final event of the film, Kate Hudson’s character receives an 84-carat yellow diamond pendant worth R69 million ($5 360 000). The remarkable piece of jewellery took everyone’s breath away.

DIAMOND SCENE FROM AFFAIR OF A NECKLACE – 2001

The entire movie revolves around a lavish diamond necklace that Louis XV gave his mistress, Madame du Barry. In the movie, Hilary Swank’s character, Jeanne de Saint-Rémy de Valois, who was orphaned as a child tries to reclaim her royalty. This includes getting her hands on the famous necklace, which is worth an estimated R84 million

($ 6 526 000).

DIAMOND SCENE FROM GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES – 1953

The 1953 remake of the stage musical, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes became one of the most iconic films of all time after Marilyn Monroe’s character, Lorelei Lee sang, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend. Of course, the film also became unforgettable for the spectacular 24-carat, pear-shaped diamond necklace Monroe wore during the film. The necklace was previously owned by Marie Antoinette and Maria Theresa of Austria.

Whether it’s the precious ‘Heart of the Ocean’ necklace in the Titanic or the spectacular yellow diamond in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days it’s clear that diamonds have been taking over the spotlight in some of Hollywood’s most memorable movie scenes. One thing is for sure, we simply can’t get enough of these remarkable jewellery pieces and the gorgeous actresses, who were lucky enough to wear them.
