In the pause before the mains (main dish, food prepared in a
particular way as part of a meal), Clarke took out her phone, thinking she
might do a Google search for Owen Traynor, but she was getting no signal.
She closed her phone down again.
Nor had he made much headway (to make progress) with the
aperitif.
…she chided (to speak to someone severely because they have
behaved badly) him.
…they were
asked if they wanted to see the dessert list.
Clarke looked at her companion and shook her head.
'Any teas
or coffees?'
And
broadband?' she queried (to ask question, especially in order to check
if something is true).
